The Day After

I am still stunned!

Photo by Mark de Jong on Unsplash

I went to bed around 11 p.m. last night, but I knew it was over. I thought maybe a miracle would happen while I slept. I didn’t sleep well, and a miracle didn’t happen. When I woke up, I dreaded seeing the confirmation of my worst fears blasted all over the Internet. But I was prepared but heartbroken.

In the morning, I checked my Medium stats. There was little activity, and I wondered why. I saw a few stories where people shared their feelings about the country’s loss. I also saw a couple of stories joking about the loss—yes, from white privileged males.

For a while, I debated whether or not to write about my feelings after Trump’s win. I wasn’t sure what to say or if it was worth saying. Then, I became a little paranoid. Because I have been critical of Trump in the past, would writing another article move me up the list of those he seeks revenge on? It’s probably too late now.

I don’t know when the retribution begins or when the mass deportations start. Returning from the grocery store, I saw a Guatemalan woman walking on the sidewalk with her child. I wondered to myself how much time they had left to live here. We have a small community of Guatemalan immigrants living in our area. I’m sure they will soon disappear.

I know Trump wants to dismantle the government, but that should take some time. Hopefully, my husband and I will be safe. I don’t think our marriage will be nullified for some time, even though Alito and Thomas have plans to do just that.

What I worry about the most is the loss of Social Security and Medicare, both of which have been targeted by Trump, Speaker Johnson, and the rest of the GOP. They have tried to weaken or destroy it before, but now they have the votes and the Presidency to do it.

The people who have the most to fear are women, especially poor women of color, who cannot afford healthcare. Community centers serving such women, as well as poor members of the LGBTQ community, will lose their funding and slowly disappear. This will eventually cause a rise in homelessness.

I won’t mention how the map of Europe could change. When Trump lets Putin annex it, there may be one less country on the continent. Will Taiwan be next?

I’ve been through one Trump administration and survived. Now that he has near complete immunity, things will be different. I have no confidence or respect for the Supreme Court, the Justice System, or Congress to do the right thing. We are in this mess because of them. I used to believe that no man is above the law and that this country is a beacon for freedom, but no longer.

I’m sure half of this country is as happy as I was when Biden won in 2020. That half has demonstrated they prefer racism, hate, bigotry, and misogyny over democracy. I hope they get what they voted for. I will only say, “I told you so.”

Are You Voting for a President,

Or are you choosing the entertainer for a stag party?

Photo by Timur Garifov on Unsplash

While the media was reeling over Joe Biden calling Trump supporters garbage, Trump and his supporters proved why this statement is true.

Last night at a rally in Milwaukee, in response to a malfunctioning microphone, Donald J. Trump, former President and current presidential candidate, sexually stroked his microphone and then mimicked performing oral sex on the mic as his adoring supporters gleefully giggled in agreement.

America, this is the clown you see at a raucous, debauchery-filled stag party attended by post-pubescent drunks trying to prove their manhood. This is the lounge lizard MAGA wants as their President. Is this something you can be proud of? God, I hope not.

If you haven’t already voted, show your patriotism and your maturity and reject this sad excuse for a human being. Kamala Harris will not embarrass us on the world stage.

The Polls Are Tied,

But what do they really say?

Photo by Sandy Millar on Unsplash

The latest election polls are tied, with Harris and Trump receiving 48% of the vote. To most people, this means that this will be an extremely close election. But to many, his means so much more.

When people are asked why they support Harris, responses include her support for reproductive rights, her sane, steady leadership, her support of a robust healthcare system, she has proven to be a strong supporter of the middle class, and her willingness to work with Republicans, and she would be a unifier.

When asked why they support Trump, people’s responses include a better economy under Trump, the fact that he will prevent immigrants from Africa and South America from coming across the border and that he’s a strong leader. Overwhelmingly, people say that Trump is like them; he talks like them and has the same values.

We all know how Trump talks and what his values are. He calls immigrants vermin, rapists, and criminals. He mocks handicapped people. He brags about sexually assaulting women. He denigrates women. He calls service men and women, veterans, and those who gave their lives for our county suckers and losers.

He admires Hitler and wishes he had generals like Hitler. He has said women who’ve had abortions should be pushed. Trump’s administration has asked the Supreme Court to legalize anti-gay discrimination and not protect transgender rights, according to Glaad.

Recently, four-star Marine General John Kelly, Trump’s former Chief of Staff, in an interview said Trump thought Hitler did “good things” and that Kelly thought Trump “met the definition of a fascist, would govern like a dictator.” As expected, Trump replied to Kelly by calling him a “degenerate and lowlife.” Once again, whenever someone disagrees with or criticizes Trump, he responds with belittling name-calling.

Now, back to those poll results. What the results really mean to people of color, the LGBTQ+ community, non-Christians, immigrants, and women who plan on having a family is quite apparent. 48% of the American people, some of your friends, neighbors, work colleagues, and even your family DON’T WANT YOU HERE!

I’m Afraid of Election Day,

And you should be, too!

Photo by Melanie Wasser on Unsplash

As the upcoming presidential election approaches, I’m becoming afraid. I’m scared of what will happen if Trump wins and what will happen if he doesn’t. I’m afraid of what will happen on and around election day and after Trump takes office if he wins.

I have every reason to be afraid. Trump has already said the election is rigged if he doesn’t win. The Republican House Speaker has refused to say he will certify the election results if Trump loses. Trump also has threatened “bloodshed” if he is not elected.

Trump’s campaign already has plans to fight the election results in swing states if Trump loses. They have introduced legislation to suppress the vote in areas of swing states with heavy Democratic voter registration. Republicans in Red states have managed to gain control of local election offices, which could decertify election results if Trump loses.

I fully expect violence on or after election day if Harris is declared the winner. There is no doubt that Trump will incite his supporters to take to the streets to commit acts of violence in response to what he will call another election stolen from him. Violent acts will continue until Congress meets to certify the election. If Speaker Johnson does not allow a vote to certify the election results, January 6, 2020, will look like a picnic. The aim of Republicans would then lead to either the House of Representatives or the Supreme Court, both firmly loyal to Trump, to choose the President.

Even with the SCOTUS rulings on presidential immunity, which were made to protect Trump, I am sure Biden would not take any action, feeling it would not be proper. The situation would be a complete takeover of the country. The January 6th coup would now be completed.

It is highly likely that Harris will trounce Trump in the popular vote but lose to Trump in the antiquated Electoral College. In the end, the votes of five or six states could nullify the votes of the entire country, giving Trump the Presidency. We will have had our last election.

If this happens, I doubt Trump will wait until his inauguration to begin his reign of terror. Trump’s minions will begin the transition from the Constitution to Project 2025. Once Trump takes over, I believe he will act quickly to mete out his revenge on every one of his political opponents, including Harris, Walz, and Liz Cheney. No politician, Democrat or Republican, will be safe from his retribution.

I know Trump will aim for media outlets that he perceived to be unfair to him, including CBS News, for fact-checking him, and ABC, NBC, and MSNBC. They will most likely lose their broadcast licenses, as Trump has promised many times before.

I am particularly afraid that bloggers and writers like myself will be among those he has promised retribution to. Millions of us on this platform and others could be targeted. All it would take would be one Trump supporter, who has read and found issue with one of our anti-Trump stories, to report us to the Trump retribution team.

Once in office, I do not doubt that my husband and I will lose many of our rights to exist as a gay couple, including nullifying our marriage, along with others. After SCOTUS overturned Roe v Wade, Justices Thomas and Alito signaled gay rights would be next. Personally, this is what I am afraid of. We will be brought back to the early sixties, but it will be more dangerous.

But I also fear what another Trump term will mean for others. There will undoubtedly be a national abortion ban, as well as a ban on contraceptives and IVF. What will happen to the right to vote for people of color? Will women still have the right to vote? Will Christianity become our national religion? So many rights we have enjoyed could be gone with another Trump term.

Trump has promised to establish internment camps for illegal and undocumented aliens. Also, as promised, millions of immigrants will be deported with the help of the National Guard. What happens when the National Guard of a red state tries to enter a blue state to enforce Trump’s policies? God only knows.

Republicans have been trying to gut Social Security and Medicare for years. Under another Trump administration, there will be nothing in his way to do what he pleases with these two vital programs. For the millions of people who benefit from Obama Care, that, too, will be taken away from them, leaving them dangerously uninsured. Finally, those millions of senior citizens who receive Social Security benefits will have them partially or totally taken away. For many seniors, this is their only source of income. What will they do? Trump won’t care.

As scary as Trump is, his Vice President is worse. It is evident that Trump’s mental acuity is quickly declining. He is suffering from dementia and most likely other serious health problems, which he is hiding by refusing to release his medical records. It is doubtful he will be able to complete his full term or even his first week as President.

One plausible scenario is that soon after Trump’s inauguration, Vice President Vance and the cabinet could invoke the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, which calls for the removal of the President if he becomes mentally or physically incapable of carrying out the duties of his office. This would leave Vance in total control.

My future and the futures of millions of my fellow Americans are in doubt. I realize that many of these people do not know what Trump and Project 2025 will do to our democracy and freedoms, and they don’t want to know. This angers and saddens me. It also enhances my fears because my only hope is they will make the right choice this election day. Please vote as if your life depends on it because it does.

Why Does TrumpWant You To Vote for Him,A question for his MAGA supporters

Photo by Library of Congress on Unsplash

The 2024 Presidential Election is less than a month away. We’ve all heard from both candidates about their platforms. Trump is seeking revenge on his political opponents and those who will not vote for him. He also plans on mass deportation of immigrants or creating internment camps for them. His platform is retribution.

Harris, on the other hand, talks of returning Roe v Wade, offering a plan to fight the housing crisis, and plans to improve Medicare and healthcare for the middle class. Her message is uniting America and what her administration will do for you.

Trump talks of what you can do for him. Harris talks of what she can do for you. It’s pretty simple.

If you study what Trump has been doing for the past four years, you will realize why he wants you to vote for him for two reasons.

He mainly wants you to vote for him to stay out of prison. He is a convicted felon with 34 indictments to his name. He has several pending trials in his future, a couple of which could result in lengthy prison terms. If he wins, he will make them all go away. But if he loses, he most assuredly ends up with jail time.

The other reason he wants to win is a financial one. During his time in office, he and his family used the Office of the Presidency to enrich their coiffures with hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money. Because of all his legal problems, he owes millions of dollars in legal fees. He needs the Presidency to steal from the government.

So, if you can’t afford his $100,000 watches, gold sneakers, or trading cards, you can do the next best thing. You can vote for him so he can steal what money you do have.
